Governor Mike DeWine has ordered flags flown at half staff to mark the passing of former Ohio Department of Transportation Director Jerry Wray. Wray served an unprecedented 16 years at the helm of ODOT, having been appointed by both Governor John Kasich and Governor George Voinovich.

The former Licking County Engineer stepped down in 2019 and was credited with streamlining ODOT, reducing the number of central office divisions and giving more authority to regional offices. The Transportation Review Advisory Council was created during his tenure, to take the localism out of awarding state funding. In 2021, the department's headquarters on West Broad Street in Columbus was renamed the Jerry Wray Building.

Flags will remain at half-staff at all ODOT buildings, all public buildings in Licking County, and state government buildings in Columbus until sunset the funeral.
