Climate Change and Health: Ohio Clinicians for Climate Action

On this episode of Prognosis Ohio, Dan Skinner talks with Dr. Marium Husein, Ariunaa Bayanjargal, and Anna Cifranic of Ohio Clinicians for Climate Action.

 

 

Dr. Husein, MD, MPH is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine and is currently a hematology and oncology fellow at the James Cancer Center. Ariunaa is a MD/PhD Candidate at Ohio State with a concentration in pediatric oncology. Anna Cifranic is Program Director for OCCA. Ohio Clinicians for Climate Action (OCCA) is a statewide group of physicians, nurses, and other health professionals who recognize the intersection of patient health and climate, and serve as credible sources for health-based environmental policy perspectives. They discuss the clinician’s role in climate justice, Ohio environmental policy, and the future of environmental health in medicine. OCCA emphasizes the need for environmental health curriculum and advocacy in clinical spaces and in medical education.

OCCA along with four other great lakes states is hosting a webinar series entitled, "Great Lakes Climate and Health: Facing Crisis & Creating Solutions Together." The webinars occur at 7 PM EST on the fourth Tuesday of each month through May 2021. Each month a different topic with climate and health impacts for states within the great lakes region will be covered. The event is free and you can register here.

Climate Change and Clinical Practice symposium hosted by The Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth and University Hospitals of Cleveland called, "The Climate Crisis: Addressing Impacts on Clinical Practice in the Great Lakes Region." The event will occur on March 10th, from 8 am - 12 pm EST, registration information to come.

Dr. Dan Skinner is Associate Professor of Health Policy in the Department of Social Medicine at Ohio University, Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, on the Dublin, Ohio campus. He earned his Ph.D. in political science from the City University of New York. Skinner teaches and researches about, as well as advocates for increased access to health care, especially for underserved populations, as well as various aspects of social determinants that affect the health of communities, in Ohio and beyond.
