Algae Warnings At East Fork Lake Lifted

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has lifted a public health advisory issued last month for swimmers at East Fork Lake in Clermont County.  The warning concerned a toxin produced by an algae bloom. The department says testing over the last two weeks has shown the toxin has dropped below the advisory threshold. But officials are warning swimmers at Maumee Bay State Park about toxic algae again appearing in Lake Erie's western basin. Higher levels of a liver toxin produced by the algae were found in recent water tests.  Warnings also have been posted at beaches at Grand Lake St. Marys in western Ohio and Buckeye Lake. The algae feeds on phosphorus in manure, sewage and fertilizers.
