Toledo Mayor Michael Collins this morning lifted the water ban that left 400,000 Ohio and Michigan residents scrambling for water for drinking, cooking and bathing.
The announcement comes after people in parts of Ohio and Michigan were told to avoid drinking tap water because of toxins contaminating Lake Erie, likely from algae. Toldeo officials issued the water warning early Saturday, and Governor John Kasich ordered the state's National Guard to deliver bottled water and food to residents in Lucas, Wood and Fulton counties.
The governor says he supports the decision to lift the ban. Other Ohio cities and businesses also responded to the water crisis in the Toledo area. But Ohio investigators are monitoring bottled water prices after price-gouging complaints. Attorney General Mike DeWine says he's sending representatives to review water prices in the Toledo area. He's encouraging consumers who believe they paid too much for bottled water to contact his office, which received several dozen complaints over social media this weekend of bottled water cases being sold at more than three times the regular price.
