Ryan Won't Make 2016 US Senate Run

cleveland.com

Ohio Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan says he is not running for the 2016 Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Rob Portman.

Ryan in a statement cites his "new and growing" family for his decision. Ryan was married in 2013 and his wife gave birth to a son last year. He also has two step-children. Cincinnati city council member P.G. Sittenfeld is seeking the Democratic nomination, while former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland is considering it. Strickland, an ordained minister and former member of Congress, says he will announce his decision by the end of this month. Portman is a former Congressman, U.S. Trade Representative and White House budget chief who is seeking a second Senate term. The swing state race could be important to GOP hopes of holding its Senate majority in the presidential election year.
