Husted Rejects Anti-Fracking Measures For Ballots In 3 Counties

Republican Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has invalidated ballot proposals in Athens, Fulton and Medina counties that would have banned fracking. Husted has upheld protests filed with his office that questioned the validity of the county charter ballot proposals. Husted says each proposal attempts to circumvent state law in a way that the courts have ruled violates the Ohio Constitution. Backers say state officials are influenced by oil and gas industry contributions, and Husted's ruling violates democratic principals. Under state law, the Secretary of State determines the validity of proposals and petitions and determines whether they should qualify for the ballot.
