Dems Pushing Bill Banning Discrimination Against LGBT Community

Minority Democrats in the Ohio Legislature are again pushing a bill banning employers and landlords from discriminating against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered people.   Ohio Public Radio's Ben Postlethwait reports.

This is the fifth time a bill has been proposed banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in housing, employment and public accommodation.

Previous bills have languished in Republican-controlled sessions.

But Representative Nickie Antonio cites Caitlyn Jenner and the legalization of same sex marriage nationwide as signs that this time is different.

“I know that since the Supreme Court decision, things have fundamentally changed. I think opinions are changing, I think the conversations we’re having are changing.”

Currently 14 cities in Ohio have laws banning discrimination against LGBT individuals, but Equality Ohio, the advocacy group pushing this bill, says that represents only a small portion of Ohioans.
