A Columbus City Schools committee has recommended two operating levy plans for the fall ballot that would raise the property taxes of a 100 thousand dollar home by 18 percent. The plans call for 5.58 new mills for operations and a half-mill permanent-improvement levy for ongoing maintenance needs. The school board must start submitting paperwork by Thursday to ensure a plan makes the ballot. A final decision must be made by mid-July. There's no word yet on whether a bond issue for new school construction will appear on the ballot.
