Columbus To Ban Tobacco Sales To People Under Age 21

columbus.gov

Columbus City Council is expected to vote next month on legislation banning the sale of tobacco products to people under the age of 21. The city's 2 thousand tobacco retailers would be required to ask for identification for anyone younger than age 30 and would have to purchase an annual sales license for 150 dollars. Violators face fines of 500 dollars for a first offense and 1 thousand for any subsequent offenses. Several other Ohio cities have enacted similar measures.
