Columbus police say there is not enough evidence to file hate crime charges against a white man who an advocacy group says attacked a Somali woman over the weekend. The local chapter of the Council on American-Islamic relations called for a hate crime investigation, but police say it is not clear who started the confrontation and it does not appear to be a hate crime. The group says the woman intervened to protect another Muslim woman from harassment by the man and was beaten unconscious. It says the man screamed "you all will be shipped back to Africa" prior to beating. The group says the woman was hospitalized for treatment of facial fractures and broken teeth.
