Public health officials have been urging people to get rid of unwanted or unused prescription painkillers amid the opioid crisis. Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and communities around the state are holding related events, including Franklin County. Columbus Health Commissioner Doctor Teresa Long says organized prescription drug drop-offs at law enforcement offices and elsewhere are a better option than throwing them in the trash or flushing them down the toilet.
Long says many studies show teen and young adult opioid and heroin users got addicted through drugs they find in the home.
