State Awards 12 Licenses For Large-Scale Medical Marijuana Growers
The state has announced licenses for 12 large scale medical marijuana growers. Proposed sites for the up to 24,000 square foot facilities are sprinkled around the state, with 7 in northeast Ohio, 2 more along Lake Erie, 3 in southwest Ohio, and two in the southeast. The system to grow medical marijuana is expected to launch by next September.
One of the applicants who lost out on a large grower license is threatening a legal challenge to the final selection. Cincinnati sports agent Jay Gould, CEO of CannAscendOhio and an early backer of legalized medical marijauna in Ohio, charges the state selection process was unfair.
Large-scale growers paid $20,000 to apply, and one submitted two possible which will be decided in upcoming weeks. They will pay $180,000 in initial licensing fees and $200,000 a year thereafter.
