Eight months after former Columbus City Schools superintendent Dan Good stepped down, the district is still several months away from naming a successor.
In March, the school board agreed to terminate the original search under pressure from the state auditor, who said the board may have violated state open meetings laws by making decisions on candidates in closed-door sesssions, and resolved to be more transparent in the new search. In a Skype meeting Tuesday night with new search firm BWP & Associates, the board was told at least 15 people have already applied to succeed Good, ahead of the August 11th deadline. But Deborah Hill told board members her firm will make the intial cuts.
In either case, the names of the applicants winnowed out by the search firm will not be made public, despite the school board's promise to be more open about the entire process. The search firm will make it's initial report to the board by September 5th.
