Two former Columbus Urban League employees have filed a lawsuit claiming they were fired for being lesbians.
Joselyn Parker and Chyna Mitchell say the were fired shortly after management learned earlier this year that they were dating. An Urban League attorney says they were fired for performance and honesty issues. But Parker says they got good job reviews.
Urban League president and former Columbus school board member Stephanie Hightower says the allegations are baseless and were dismissed following investigations by the Ohio Civil Rights Commission and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The duo is seeking financial compensation, including back pay. They met with reporters on Wednesday, the same day the National Urban League opened its annual conference in Columbus.
