Columbus Issues New Restrictions On Scooters

Columbus city officials have enacted restrictions on ride sharing scooters and bicycles.

The Department of Public Safety says in a news release the restrictions require operating companies to make the devices available to people who lack a credit or debit card. The companies must obtain operating permits, and the devices must be parked in an upright position.  The devices cannot be parked in a street, a  parking spot, a loading zone or doorway, and they cannot block pedestrians on sidewalks or curb ramps, fire escapes, bus shelters, driveways or on unauthorized private property.  Each company is limited to offering up to 500 devices.  Companies must educate riders on responsible and legal use.  The firms have 30 days to comply.
