First Of Three Debates In U.S. Senate Race Focuses On Immigration

c-span.org

The first of three planned debates between Democratic U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Republican challenger Jim Renacci was held last night in Cleveland.

It touched on a number of topics including healthcare and the opioid crisis. When asked about the immigration raids in Ohio earlier this year, both candidates said they did not support the Trump Administration separating children from their parents.  But they diverged on immigration reform.  Brown said officials should be concentrating on people who commit crimes.

Renacci said Democrats should have implemented immigration reform when they controlled the House and Senate a decade ago.
