A group of nearly 30 black Columbus faith leaders is calling on Mayor Andy Ginther to make changes to the Columbus Division of Police because of racial discrimination.
The faith leaders Thursday submitted a list of seven demands, including improving working conditions for minority officers and improving police-community relations. They documented how officers are claiming discrimination by the division, and how officers who report such instances face retaliation. Ginther released a statement online touting his creation of the Comprehensive Neighborhood Safety Strategy last year, which included the creation of the Columbus Community Safety Advisory Commission to review police operations.
