Columbus police have launched a major restructuring.

Interim Chief Thomas Quinlan said Monday the changes include the creation of a new unit to replace the vice squad that was disbanded after allegations of lax supervision and bad officer behavior. The new unit is called PACT - Police And Community Together and allows only uniformed officers to make an arrest. An FBI public corruption agent will hold officers accountable. Awatch commander will be on every shift, a public accountability subdivision is being created, along with a cadet program, community education officer and redesigned criminal investigations division. A search for a permanent police chief continues.
