New Emergency Shelter For Human Trafficking Victims Opening Today In Columbus

An emergency shelter for female victims of human trafficking opens today in Columbus.

A group called Out of Darkness Columbus, which runs a drop-in center off of East Morrill Avenue, will operate the new shelter.  Women can request emergency housing at the drop-off center or by calling the group, and free around-the-clock transportation will be provided.  The group run by women says it's been fundraising for the past four years to open the facility. Federal data shows 98  percent of women caught in the sex trade were sexually abused as children.
