Former Buckeye Coach Sentenced For Violating Protection Order

Delaware County Sheriff's Office

Former Ohio State University assistant football coach Zach Smith has been sentenced to 19 days in jail and three years' probation for violating a protective order obtained by his former wife.

Smith was arrested last May after an altercation with Scioto Ridge Elementary School staffers when attempting to pick up his children. A Delaware County Sheriff's deputy told him he was in violation of the civil protection order because his former wife Courtney was at the school. Smith was found guilty in December. Smith was fired in 2018 after he was charged with criminal trespass following a dispute with Courtney Smith.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
