While establishing an official replacement date for Ohio's primary requires legislative action, registered voters who have not voted can cast an absentee ballot.
After a bid to delay the election by judicial order last night failed, Ohio Director of Health Dr. Amy Acton closed polling places as a emergency measure. The legislature will reconvene soon to reschedule the election, but local boards of election are proceeding with absentee voting in the meantime. Franklin County Board of Elections spokesperson Aaron Sellers says people can still vote by mail.
Sellers says prior to today, an estimated 46,000 Franklin County residents had either voted early in-person, or requested an absentee ballot. Pending legislative approval, Ohio's in-person primary will take place on June 2. Secretary of State Frank LaRose says that's just enough time to assign delegates for the Democratic national Convention.
