Columbus Council Holds Hearing On Demilitarizing Police

Columbus City Council held a hearing last night on demilitarizing police. 

The Columbus Division of  Police has been criticized for its handling of protests, most notably the initial demonstrations during the final weekend of May. More than 900 residents sent in written comments. Here's a sampling of comments from the nearly 70 speakers made during the online hearing:

Council members plan to pass a legislative package before their August recess that includes independent investigations, limiting or banning no-knock raids, demilitarizing the police and instituting background checks for hate-group affiliation.
