COVID-19 Spikes Forcing Changes At Several Local School Districts

State health officials Tuesday reported 6,508 new cases of COVID-19 and 23 new deaths.

The state  now has 261,482 cases and 5,547 deaths.

Olentangy Orange High School has suspended varsity and junior varsity boys basketball programs due to a positive COVID-19 case. Team activities are on hold until at least November 20. Three active cases have been found at the school and 31 people are in quarantine.

Licking Valley Local Schools are on remote learning until at least Thanksgiving break due to a significant number of COVID-19 cases. Superintendent David Hile also says the district has numerous contacts in quarantine, including staffers, and not enough substitute teachers and bus drivers. All 5th-grade students have had contact with a staffer who has tested positive. Hile says six staffers and several students have tested positive.

Pickerington Local Schools are postponing plans to move to in-person instruction four-days-per-week. Superintendent Chris Briggs says the district will remain in a hybrid model because of increases in in-school positives and quarantined COVID-19 cases.  Briggs says families will be given a week's notice when the district decides to go back to the in-person plan.
