Columbus Council Rejects Green Energy Funding Petition

Columbus City Council on Monday rejected a citizen petition creating a clean energy fund and a fund to educate and train citizens and workers about clean energy. The measure called for 10 thousand dollars to be set aside for each fund, plus ten thousand to help small businesses transition to clean energy, as well as 57 thousand to help low-income residents pay for clean energy. Council president Shannon Hardin says city attorneys found the measure failed to meet legal standards:

Columbus voters in November approved a clean energy initiative allowing the city to contract to provide competitively-priced, clean electricity from a retail generation supplie. Participation will be voluntary, and residents can opt-out at any time.
