Columbus Vaccine Provider Fails To Monitor Doses

A Columbus vaccine provider has been suspended by the Ohio Department of Health for failing to properly store the Moderna vacccines.

SpecialtyRX received 1,500 vaccines for residents at eight long-term care facilities before the new year.  After the first round of vaccinations the company stored 890 doses while discussing transferring the doses to another provider.

But ODH says they failed to appropriately monitor temperatures in their refrigerator and freezer according to protocol.

While the first shots were viable, the lack of monitoring renders the remaining the doses unusable.  The long term care facilities will have to coordinate with another provider for the second dose, most likely the local health department.
