School Staff Vaccination Program Rolls Out; Will Take Weeks

Cincinnati Public Schools began giving school-based staff COVID shots Thursday , but the state's official school vaccination program starts Monday.

Most Franklin County school districts will begin vaccinations next week.  Licking County and Pickaway County schools will receive the vaccine starting  Feb. 8.  Union County schools staff can start to get the vaccine the week of Feb. 15.  And Madison County and Fairfield County schools will start their vaccination programs Feb. 22.

School officials are prioritizing which employees will be vaccinated first, starting with teachers and others who have the most contact with students.  Scheduling appointments for vaccination is also being handled by the district and their designated partners, either local health departments or state-authorized retail providers.

Scarcity of vaccine remains a problem, and it will take weeks to complete even the first round of the the two-shot vaccine.  State officials currently project about 55,000 doses will be made available for school-based staff every week for over 300,000 teachers and other school staff in Ohio.
