Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam fired Head Coach Mike Pettine and General Manager Ray Farmer on Sunday following the end of a 3-13 season.
Pettine went 10-22 in two years, dropping 18 of his final 21 games. Farmer drafted quarterback Johnny Manziel and cornerback Justin Gilbert in the first round last year, and both have been major disappointments. Farmer was suspended by the NFL for the first four games this season for texting to the sideline during games in 2014. Haslam has promoted 39-year-old Sashi Brown, formerly executive vice president/legal counsel, to executive vice president of football operations. He will be part of the search committee for a head coach and general manager and will have full control of the 53-player roster and final say on the draft. Haslam also hired the consulting firm Korn Ferry to help find a new GM and coach. That firm helped Haslam hire some of the Pilot Flying J executives who pleaded guilty in the firm's fuel rebate scandal. Despite making several changes in the front office and coaching staff since he bought the team in 2012, Haslam thinks potential candidates will want to work for him.
The Browns have had only two winning seasons and one playoff appearance since returning to the league as an expansion franchise in 1999.
