Lawmakers Preparing To Relax Standards For School That Accepted ECOT Students

Republican state lawmakers are preparing to temporarily relax academic performance standards for the Toledo-based Ohio Virtual Academy that took in thousands of students from the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow after it closed.

The House Education Committee folded "safe harbor" protections into a separate bill Tuesday and sent them for a full House vote today. The academy lobbied for the protections. Democrats say the state needs to get tough on online charter schools.
