The Columbus City Schools' teachers union is calling on board member James Ragland to step down following what it calls an "inappropriate and misogynistic" social media post.
The post has a link to the song "Nice Girls Don't Stay For Breakfast" and a comment from Ragland that reads: "Happy Women's Day! Govern Yourself Accordingly!" CEA president John Coniglio says the post - which has since been removed - shows "a fundamental disrespect for the core values of the Columbus City Schools". Ragland says it was "unintentionally offensive" and an "error in judgement".
It's not the first time the union has clashed with Ragland, who was appointed in 2018 to the seat vacated by Dominic Paretti, and reelected last year. Last fall the union rescinded its earlier endorsement of Ragland after he took a paid position with School Choice Ohio, a group that advocates for private and charter schools, and his appearance on a education panel in suburban Columbus with then-Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.
