Trump Will 'Protect' Emergency Declaration If Congress Disapproves, Miller Says

If Congress votes to disapprove Trump's declaration of a national emergency, the president is prepared to veto it, White House senior adviser Stephen Miller said on Sunday. The president is declaring a national emergency to secure up to $8 billion in funding for a barrier on the southern border — more than four times what Congress approved. House Democrats have called Trump's declaration unlawful , and are considering a joint resolution disapproving of the declaration. Miller's comments...

Here is modern tragedy like no other in 2003.

Here is modern tragedy like no other in 2003. While A.O. Scott in the "New York Times" reminded us of "Antigone's" "two rights adding up to a monstrous wrong," I will take one further step to say debut director Vadim Perelman's "House of Sand and Fog" has many of the tragic elements found in most Greek dramas centuries ago.

"21 Grams" is the most existential film of 2003

"In America" may be the best immigrant movie ever made in the English language.

The director has succeeded in returning our Western culture, especially America, to myths and legends of camaraderie.

What were the best CDs of 2003? We have a few ideas!

A romantic comedy American cinema can be proud of.

In "Something's Gotta Give," Jack Nicholson plays a wealthy music magnate capably aided by National Board of Review winner Diane Keaton as a mid-fifty year old playwright with a young daughter dating Jack.

There's something about this "Stuck on You" that sticks to me.

An interview with director Arthur Penn on "Mickey One"

On October 28, 2003 Arthur Penn was presented the Savannah Film Festival's "Achievement in Cinema Award" by the Savannah College of Art and Design, the festival's host. Following the awards ceremony there was a retrospective screening of Penn's more well known "Bonnie and Clyde."

You do not have a credible performance by Tom Cruise in the titular role.

"The Last Samurai" is formulaic epic: exotic location, historical shift in culture (Japan on the brink of modernism), a singular hero tested to the max, and warfare on a grand scale. Add grand cinematography with over 21/2 hours of screen time, and you have a Hollywood epic.

'Every Day Is A Good Day When You're Floating': Anne McClain Talks Life In Space

What do you eat in space? How do you sleep in space? And just what does one do all day long in space? Children from the Georgetown Day School in Washington D.C., recently had a chance to ask their most burning questions to NASA astronaut Anne McClain. They are roughly the same age that McClain was when on her first day of preschool she announced that she wanted to become an astronaut. By the time McClain was about 5 years old, she said she wrote a book about flying to space on the Soyuz...

This City Told Amazon And Google: No Incentives For You

A mayor from another city that tried to land big tech companies might be starting to look pretty smart after Amazon canceled its plans for a New York City headquarters. Activists and local politicians said New York had given up too much for too little. But it doesn't have to be that way, says San Jose, Calif., Mayor Sam Liccardo, who refused to offer Amazon and another tech giant, Google, any incentives to locate in his city. Amazon's decision to back out of the New York City plan followed...
