Second Student Sues CCS Over Actions Of Resource Officer

gcrtl.org

The family of a Columbus teenager who had a sexual relationship with a former Columbus police school resource officer is suing the Columbus City Schools and some administrators. The family says district officials looked the other way when Todd Smith lured the 15-year-old Centennial High School student into the relationship. The girl's family also claims Smith had a history of sexual misconduct and should not have been allowed in the school. The district has declined comment. Smith was sentenced last year to seven years in prison for exchanging thousands of graphic messages with two 15-year-old female students. The mother of the other 15-year-old has filed a similar lawsuit.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
