A subsidiary that runs Akron-based FirstEnergy's nuclear and coal-fired power plants has filed for bankruptcy.
FirstEnergy Solutions says the move is being made to "facilitate an orderly financial restructuring" and is in the best interest of the company and creditors. It comes after the parent company said last week it intends to shut down its three nuclear plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania within the next three years.
