Columbus Settles Lawsuit Filed By Woman Assaulted By Cop

The City of Columbus has agreed to pay 90 thousand dollars to a local woman to settle her lawsuit over a 2017 case in which she says police used excessive force on her.

Ahkilah Pendergrass says officer Randal Lyons unlawfully entered her home in August of that year looking for an armed robbery suspect. The suspect was found and Lyons ordered everyone to leave while officers waited for a search warrant. City Solicitor Lara Baker-Morrish says Lyons threw Pendergrass to the ground when she and others tried to get back into the home, causing a serious injury.

Baker-Morrish says the settlement amount was reached through court-order mediation.  City Council approved the settlement this past Monday.
