CDP Reports Second Officer-Involved Shooting This Week

A Columbus police SWAT officer  shot and killed a 16-year-old boy last  night on the near east side during a robbery investigation.

Police say an officer killed Julius Tate Junior after Tate robbed another officer at gunpoint near Mount Vernon and Champion Avenues.  Police say they were conducting the operation in response to reports of robberies of people who use the internet to buy and sell used, sometimes stolen goods. The shooting is similar to one early this week in which 18-year-old Kyler Collier was critically wounded by SWAT officer Robert Vass in a parking lot off Duvall Lane during an investigation. Investigators do not believe the incidents are related.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
