Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed into law a measure called "Tyler's Law," designed to improve amusement ride safety:
The legislation is named for 18-year-old Tyler Jarrell, who was killed when the Fireball ride malfunctioned and broke apart at the 2017 Ohio State Fair. It strengthens safety inspection standards, defines qualifications for inspectors and outlines ride owner responsibilities. It also puts a professional engineer on the state panel that makes recommendations about amusement rides. DeWine has also signed into law a measure repealing the state sales tax on tampons and other feminine hygiene products. The measure repealing the 'pink tax' was included in another bill that provides a tax credit to teachers who buy school supplies. Most states still tax feminine hygiene products. Ohio is among a dozen states that have recently changed their policies.
