New Franklin County Prosecutor Gary Tyack expects to appoint a special prosecutor in the Casey Goodson Jr case.
Goodson was unarmed when he was shot and killed by a Franklin County Sheriff's deputy last month.
At his swearing-in ceremony MondayTyack said he was prompted to run by the memory of a client who had been shot in the back by a police officer who never faced charges. It was a story he heard from many in the community.
"Week after week I went to meetings and had somebody say: 'my child, my nephew, my relative was shot, and nothing came of it'."
Columbus police, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office are all investigating Goodson's death.
This will not be the only special prosecutor starting the new year in Franklin County. Outgoing prosecutor Ron O'Brien also appointed a special prosecutor into the death of Andre Hill, who was shot and killed by a Columbus police officer less than three weeks after Goodson's death. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost will lead that prosecution.
