Former Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley and former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, both running for Ohio governor, will take the Columbus Metropolitan Club stage on April 20 for a live discussion of the issues facing Ohioans – and how each might handle them as governor of the Buckeye State.
NBC4 evening news anchor Colleen Marshall will moderate the candidate conversation. Marshall is also host of the weekly political program “NBC4’s The Spectrum.”
Cranley and Whaley will face one another in the Democratic primary on May 3, with the winner of that primary appearing on the November 8 ballot alongside a Republican gubernatorial opponent to be determined.
There’s no shortage of issues facing the two candidates, from gun control, educational inequities, climate change and energy sourcing, to economic development, affordable housing, and an Ohio population that – depending on a voter’s zip code – is either growing rapidly or continuing a long-term decline.
Members of both the in-person and the online streaming audience will be able to submit questions to be asked of the candidates by members of CMC’s Program Committee.
With two of the three Republican gubernatorial candidates in Ohio announcing they won’t participate in debates, a GOP edition of CMC’s April 20 Democratic forum is unlikely.
