The Long March for Equality: 4 Generations of LGBTQ+ Activists

Lynn Greer Legacy in Civic Engagement Forum – Celebrating Inclusion & Equity for the LGBTQ+ Community

From New York’s Stonewall Uprising in 1969, through the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, to the 2015 Supreme Court decision that declared same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states, gay rights in the U.S. have advanced because of the tireless work of activists and advocates. However, a growing conservative backlash is now taking aim at these hard-won rights in the U.S. and threatening to roll back decades of progress in LGBTQ+ equality. We’ll look at both the past and the future of the struggle for LGBTQ+ equality in Central Ohio through the eyes of four generations of LGBTQ+ activists.

Featuring Karen Hewitt, Associate Director, Leadership Columbus, and Co-Founder, The Ohio REST Collective, Chris Cozad, LGBTQ Activist and Owner & President, Alternative Auto Care, José Rodriguez, Vice President, Lighthouse Behavioral Health Solutions, and Joseph Soza, Central Ohio Regional Organizer, Equality Ohio, with host Ronald Murray, MARCH Program Director, Franklin County Municipal Court, and President, Stonewall Columbus Board of Trustees.
