Outgoing Ohio Governor John Kasich apparently will not grant clemency to the key figure in the Coingate scandal over a decade ago.
Kasich's final list of sentence commutations and pardons does not include former Republican party donor and Toledo coin dealer Tom Noe. The state parole board denied clemency and Noe's wife asked Kasich to step in. Noe is serving an 18-year sentence for embezzling from a 50-million-dollar rare-coin fund he operated for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. The scandal ended in then-Governor Bob Taft's conviction on ethics violations.
