ODE Proceeding With Charter School Sponsor Evaluations

The Ohio Department of Education says it's moving forward with evaluations of charter school sponsors for following  rules and laws. The announcement comes after Republican lawmakers moved to delay the evaluation process last month. Some portions of the charter-school community have opposed the process. The department wants to meet an October 15 deadline to publish the ratings. It's dropping a proposal requiring all schools be evaluated after Republicans objected. The department will stick with an existing evaluation method allowing for sampling of 10 percent of schools.
