Columbus Police vice officer Andrew Mitchell has retired less than a week after being indicted on kidnapping, sexual assault and other charges.
Mitchell resigned in "bad standing", meaning the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Board will decide whether he keeps his pension. Interim Columbus Police Chief Tom Quinlan disbanded the Vice Unit on Tuesday. Mitchell is expected to plead not guilty during his arraignment today. A judge will decide whether he remains held without bond. The Columbus City Attorney's office has dismissed 18 prostitution-related cases involving Mitchell, and is reviewing convictions in other cases involving Mitchell over the last three decades.
