After announcing a new record in COVID-19 cases and calling this the most dangerous stage of the pandemic, Governor Mike DeWine Thursday named a new leadership team at the Ohio Department of Health.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine says he doesn’t know any of the details about an alleged plot to arrest him under a so-called “citizen’s arrest.”

South Carolina’s public health director appeared to be on her way to a new job in Ohio before abruptly withdrawing, saying a day later she was concerned because the previous director’s family was harassed including protests at her home.

Joan Duwve said she isn’t returning to her job in South Carolina either.

Hours after Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced the appointment of the state's new Health Director, Doctor Joan Duwve withdrew, citing personal reasons.

The Ohio Department of Health is reporting another near-record number of new COVID-19 cases.  

Doctor Amy Acton, Ohio’s health director, is stepping down.  

During her 17 years running Okanogan County's small public health department in eastern Washington, Lauri Jones rarely encountered any controversy.

"Usually, we kind of sit here under the radar," says Jones, whose department before the pandemic was mostly known for mundane duties such as recording births, issuing permits for septic tanks, and investigating reports of food poisoning.

Salons, barbershops and outdoor dining can begin to reopen May 15th, under guidelines being released today by Governor Mike DeWine, and restaurants and bars can fully reopen by May 21.  But he says  reopening Ohio carries a risk.

Republicans in the Ohio House have approved a bill that would limit the power and length of public health orders on coronavirus that their fellow Republican, Gov. Mike DeWine, has been issuing through Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton. Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler reports the bill reflects a split in the GOP on how to restart the economy that could carry over into the future.

Ohio is ramping up its ability to test for COVID-19, which means a big increase in testing by the end of May. Statehouse correspondent Andy Chow reports Gov. Mike DeWine is now announcing new protocols to follow since testing won't be as limited as it once was.

Dentist offices are among the medical providers permitted to reopen Friday as part of the governor's health services reopening in Ohio. 

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine says plans to begin reopening businesses in Ohio continue to evolve.  He gave a few more details at Friday's press conference on plans to slowly begin phase one May 1st.
