A Franklin County judge has ruled the Columbus  man charged with beating and killing his wife in 2019 is incompetent to stand trial.

The Columbus City Attorney's office has created a text message service for domestic violence victims during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, citing a sharp rise in domestic violence amid global coronavirus lockdowns, called on governments around the world to make addressing the issue a key part of their response to the pandemic.

Speaking late Sunday, Guterres said "violence is not confined to the battlefield."

"For many women and girls, the threat looms largest where they should be safest — in their own homes," he said, appealing "for peace at home — and in homes — around the world."

Columbus police say a man shot and wounded by an officer during a burglary call last month was holding a cellphone rather than a gun. 

A new transitional home for women escaping sex trafficking, domestic violence and drug addiction is scheduled to open March 29th on Columbus' west side.

Former Ohio State University assistant football coach Zach Smith has been sentenced to 19 days in jail and three years' probation for violating a protective order obtained by his former wife.

Gahanna police have identified the vehicle passenger killed Wednesday after a pursuit. 

Gahanna police say a passenger in a car fleeing officers was killed last night when the vehicle crashed at Clark State and Headley Roads.

Delaware County Sheriff's deputies have filed charges out of a slaying in Powell this past Friday night.

An annual survey by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network finds 81 Ohioans died in 60 domestic violence confrontations during the 12-month period ending June 30, including 53 victims and 28 perpetrators.

Former Ohio State University head football coach Urban Meyer encouraged Zach Smith to stay with the Buckeyes in January 2018 after the then-assistant coach was pursued by Alabama, according to texts messages from Meyer to Smith.

Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley says his city is joining Columbus in taking the state to court over a recently-passed gun law.

Former Ohio State University assistant football coach Zach Smith was arrested Thursday after an altercation with staff at Scioto Ridge Elementary School. 

Many women have a hard time admitting — even to themselves — that they're being abused by their husband or partner. Suzanne Dubus' first husband hit her, but still, she didn't initially identify herself as a victim of abuse.

"I attributed it to alcohol," Dubus says. "I knew that his father abused his mother. And I thought, 'Well, this is just poor learning, and I can help him with this.' "

Columbus Police says the body of a woman found in the Scioto River near the Whittier Pennisula Saturday has been identified as 28-year old Amber Evans, who had been missing since January.

The president of the Ohio Senate doesn't think lawmakers infringed on cities' rights with legislation that supersedes local gun ordinances and gives citizens the right to challenge those laws in court. 


The city of Columbus today filed a lawsuit against the state of Ohio to halt legislation enacted last year because it limits the ability municipalities have to enact local gun ordinances.

Richland County Sheriff's records show the woman abducted from the OSU Mansfield campus and later fatally shot in Kentucky had complained to police about her ex-boyfriend abusing her.

Until now, Delaware County was the largest county in Ohio without a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
