Algae Blooms Add To Problems At Central Ohio Lake

Newark Advocate

The central Ohio lake where a faulty dam and lowered water levels are already biting into the summer economy now has another problem: algae blooms.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says toxic algae blooms have been reported at Brooks, Crystal and Fairfield beaches at Buckeye Lake. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in March that the 4.1-mile dam is in danger of failing and causing a catastrophic flood. As a result, the water level is being kept at 3 feet for the summer.
